DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a validation system used to certify that an e-mail has been sent by an authenticated individual or mail server. An electronic signature is attached to the header of the email message using a private cryptographic key. When the message is received, a public key that is available in the global DNS database is used to validate who exactly sent it and if the content has been edited in any way. The essential job of DKIM is to prevent the widespread spam and scam emails, as it makes it impossible to forge an email address. If an email is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank, for instance, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not get the email message at all, or you will get it with a warning notice that most probably it’s not authentic. It depends on email providers what exactly will happen with an email that fails to pass the signature examination. DKIM will also give you an added protection layer when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, since they can see for themselves that all the emails that you exchange are authentic and have not been modified in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting

If you host a domain in a cloud hosting account with our company, all the mandatory records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail functionality will be created by default. This will happen once you add the domain in , on the condition that the domain also uses our NS resource records. A private cryptographic key will be created on our mail servers, while a public key will be sent to the global Domain Name System automatically using the TXT resource record. In this way, you won’t have to do anything manually and you’ll be able to take full advantage of all the benefits of this email validation system – your emails will be delivered to any destination without being denied and nobody will be able to send out emails faking your addresses. The latter is quite important if the nature of your Internet presence suggests sending out periodic newsletters or offers via email to prospective and current customers.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All necessary DKIM records will be created automatically by our cloud hosting platform when you add a domain as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so if you decide to purchase a semi-dedicated server package, you will not have to configure anything to be able to use the email authentication system. The domain should use our name servers so that its DNS resource records can be managed by our company and as long as this prerequisite is fulfilled, a private key will be created on our mail servers and a public key will be added to the global Domain Name System by a special TXT resource record. All email addresses that you set up using the domain will be protected by DKIM, which will make it impossible for 3rd parties to fake any email address. Both you and your colleagues or clients can take advantage of this option, as it will ensure a higher safety level for your electronic correspondence.
