There are many ways to redirect a domain name to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you have developed a site using some on-line service that provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned Internet site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is very important to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and functioning e-mail address with another one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often further configuration may be required with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Creating a CNAME record through our Linux cloud hosting packages is really simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in a couple of simple steps. You can find a video tutorial within the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you a number of opportunities - if you build a company website on our end, for example, the staff can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up a website using a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain name hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will take only a couple of clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will find a section committed to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted within the account. To create a CNAME record, you'll simply have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type where the latter is going to be directed to and save the change. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and takes a click. If you experience any problems, you can go through our comprehensive help article, watch the short video on the subject that we have added in the CP, or simply contact us for help.
